El Reflejo

"Cuando murió Narciso las flores de los campos quedaron desoladas y solicitaron al río gotas de agua para llorarlo.

-¡Oh! -les respondió el río- aun cuando todas mis gotas de agua se convirtieran en lágrimas, no tendría suficientes para llorar yo mismo a Narciso: yo lo amaba.

-¡Oh! -prosiguieron las flores de los campos- ¿cómo no ibas a amar a Narciso? Era hermoso.

-¿Era hermoso? -preguntó el río.

-¿Y quién mejor que tú para saberlo? -dijeron las flores-. Todos los días se inclinaba sobre tu ribazo, contemplaba en tus aguas su belleza...

-Si yo lo amaba -respondió el río- es porque, cuando se inclinaba sobre mí, veía yo en sus ojos el reflejo de mis aguas. "

The Disciple

NARCISOS es un proyecto que utiliza la investigación estadística como herramienta para el discurso artístico. En él se indaga la necesidad de analizarnos, clasificarnos, numerarnos, definirnos, vernos: reflejarnos.

Para esta serie de retratos se tomó de una fototeca una serie de retratos de personas oriundas de la zona noreste del país, se agruparon por edad y sexo para posteriormente por medio de la computadora empalmar todas las imágenes de cada grupo haciéndolas traslucidas obteniendo así al encimarse un gran número de personas una imagen del fenotipo promedio.

Narcissuses is a project based on the uses of statistical strategy as a tool for artistic research. Aimed to explore the necessity to analyze, to qualify, to number, to define, to meet: to reflect ourselves.

For this series of portraits, I am using the public records of the government. This specific photo collection portraits persons native to the zone North-East of the country. This records are divided by age and sex. later on I have intervene the portraits to combine all the images from the differtent groups making them translucent trying to obtain an image of the average phenotype.
